Tarihte 1303’de İznik kuşatıldı, Marmaracık kalesi fethedildi. Fetih Osman Bey tarafından gerçekleştirildi. Marmaracık adı savaştan sonra köye yerleşen Türkler tarafından konulmuştur. Marmara Bölgesininde büyük etkiye sahip olduğundan Küçük Marmara anlamında olan Marmaracık ismi verilmiştir. Ermenilerle Türkler arasında yapılan savaştan sonra bölgeyi terk eden Ermenilerin evleri hala ziyaret edilebilir durumdadır. Bölgede böbrek taşına iyi geldiği söylenen kışın sıcak yazın soğuk akan su kaynakları mevcuttur. Marmaracık (“Tumba”): Bursa-Yenişehir karayolunun hemen güneyinde yer alan höyük, Marmaracık köyünün yaklaşık 3 km güneyindedir. Höyük yaklaşık olarak 100×5 m boyutlarındadır.

Höyükte bulunan Neolitik Çağ’a ait Fikirtepe türü çanak çömlekler höyükteki en eski yerleşimin yaklaşık olarak MÖ 6000 yıllarında başladığını göstermektedir. Fikirtepe türü çanak çömlek parçalarının dışında höyükte, İlk Tunç Çağı’na tarihlenen Yenişehir ve İnegöl gri türlerinde ve 2. Bin’e tarihlenen çanak çömlek parçaları da bulunmuştur.Höyük üzerinde yoğun olarak tarım yapılmaktadır ve bu amaçla açılmış bir tarla yolu arkeolojik tabakaları kısmi olarak tahrip etmiştir. Olasılıkla Orta Anadolu’dan gelen ilk Neolitik Çağ topluluklarının Bursa’daki en eski yerleşimlerinden bir tanesi olan Marmamacık höyüğü, Yenişehir ovasının hemen güneybatısındaki konumuyla, doğal yolların üzerinde yer almaktadır.Bursa iline 33 km, Yenişehir ilçesine 19 km uzaklıktadır.
