ABD Dışişleri, Norveç’e 293 milyon dolar değerinde GBU-53/B Small Diameter Bomb II StormBreaker Güdümlü Bomba siparişini onayladı. DSCA tarafından yayınlanan bildiriye göre; Norveç, tam olarak 600 adet GBU-53/B Small Diameter Bomb II StormBreaker mühimmatı alıyor.
StormBreaker Norveç tarafından ilk olarak 2022 yılında seçilmişti. Norveç Hava Kuvvetleri’ne ait F-35A savaş uçaklarında kullanılması planlanan StormBreaker’dan ilk etapta 20 adet sipariş geçilmişti. 28 Haziran’da onaylanan yeni sipariş ile 580 adet daha StormBreaker sipariş eden Norveç, toplam sipariş adetini 600’e çıkarttı. Toplam sipariş bedeli ise 293 milyon dolar.

Başlangıçta GBU-53/B Small Diameter Bomb II (SDB II) olarak adlandırılan StormBreaker, ilk olarak 2020’nin sonlarında ABD Hava Kuvvetleri’nin F-15E Strike Eagle’ında kullanıldı ve o zamandan beri çeşitli hava araçlarında kullanılmaya başlandı. Mühimmat en son olarak F-35 savaş uçaklarına Blok 4 güncellemesi ile entegre edilecek. Bir F-35A, iç silah istasyonlarında toplamda 8 adet StormBreaker taşıyabilecek.
Raytheon tarafından geliştirilen GBU-53/B, esasında GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb üzerinden geliştirilmiş bir akıllı mühimmat. Uçaktan bırakıldıktan sonra itkisiz bir şekilde süzülerek hedefine yol alan StormBreaker, çok amaçlı harp başlığı ile; uçak sığınakları, komuta kontrol noktaları, hava savunma sistemi gibi sabit hedeflere; küçük tekneler veya araçlar gibi hareketli hedeflere angaje olabilmektedir.
Ara safhada GPS/INS güdüm sistemini kullanan mühimmat terminal fazda ise 3 modlu kızılötesi görüntüleyici, yarı otomatik lazer ve milimetrik dalga radarı arayıcı başlığını kullanarak otonom bir şekilde hedefini vurmakta. StormBreaker havadan atıldığında sabit hedeflere karşı 110km, hareketli hedeflere karşı ise 70km menzile sahip. Mühimmat, üzerinde bulunan veribağı sayesinde hedef güncellemesi ve ara safha güdüm güncellemesi yapılabiliyor.
Mühimmat her türlü hava koşulunda hedefini kesin vurabilecek şekilde tasarlandı. 3 modlu arayıcı başlığında bulunan milimetrik dalga radarı ile sisli ve görüşün olmadığı havalarda hedeflere angaje olunuyor; kızılötesi görüntüleyici başlık ile hedef seçiminin kritik olduğu senaryolarda güdüm yapılıyor ve lazer arayıcı başlık ile de farklı bir hava aracının hedeflediği hedefe taarruz edilebiliyor. StormBreaker halihazırda GBU-39 SDB için geliştirilen BRU-61 pnömatik lançerlerinden atılabiliyor.
