MCU’nun Iron Man’i olmadan önce Robert Downey Jr. bambaşka bir rol için düşünülüyordu…
Robert Downey Jr., süper kahraman filmlerinde yeni bir çağ başlatan 2008 yapımı “Iron Man”de Tony Stark / Iron Man rolünü üstlenerek Marvel Sinematik Evreni’nin yüzü haline geldi. Yıllar içinde Iron Man rolünde bir başkasının oynadığını düşünmek bile imkansız hale gelirken rolüyle tam anlamıyla bütünleşti.
Ancak filmin yönetmeni Jon Favreau, başlangıçta Downey’nin bambaşka bir Marvel karakteri için değerlendirildiğini açıkladı. Marvel Studios’un ilk uzun metraj filmi olan “Iron Man”in çıkışının 15. yılı için Jon Favreau ve Marvel Studios Başkanı Kevin Feige bir araya geldi ve film üzerine konuştukları bir video yayınladılar.
Videoda Kevin Feige, “Sen ve Robert’ın o filmde keşfettiği ton, MCU’nun dönüştüğü şeyin şablonu oldu. Daha sonraki filmlerde […] karanlık günler oldu ve ben hep Robert’a ‘Sen olmasaydın bu pisliğin içinde olmazdık’ derdim. Yani, sen olmasaydın bir stüdyomuz olmazdı.” diyerek Jon Favreau ve Robert Downey Jr.’ın öneminden bahsediyor.
Sonrasında Favreau, Robert Downey Jr.’ın Iron Man filmi için neredeyse devre dışı olacağını vurguluyor. Downey Jr. Fox’un 2005 tarihli Marvel çizgi roman uyarlaması “Fantastik Dörtlü”de Doctor Doom’u oynaması için öne çıkan isimlerden biriydi ve yapımcı Avi Arad onu seçmiş olsaydı muhtemelen her şey daha farklı olacaktı. Jon Favreau, aktörle ilk buluşmasını şu sözlerle anlatıyor:
“Hepinizin onunla Doctor Doom veya başka bir proje için tanıştığınızı hatırlıyorum, sanırım o ‘Fantastik Dörtlü’de başarılı olmuştu. Yani herkes onun kim olduğunu biliyordu ve ben adamla ilk kez oturduğumu hatırlıyorum, ‘Tanrım, onun içinde, gözünde o kıvılcım var ve hazır’ demiştim. Bir zamanlar sadece Downey idi, o zaman karakterin sesini anladığı için hayatım çok daha kolaylaştı. Ve sonra, insanlar birer birer imza atmaya başladılar çünkü artık bu ilginç bir şey haline geldi.”
Marvel Sinematik Evreni’nin Iron Man’den sonraki en önemli figürlerinden biri olan Captain America’yı canlandıran Chris Evans da ilk olarak 2005 yapımı “Fantastic Four” filminde ve 2007 tarihli devam filminde Johnny Storm olarak rol almış, 2011 yılında ise Captain America olarak Marvel Sinematik Evreni’ne katılmıştı.
