Altı aydır güneş sisteminin sınırında tek başına bir araştırma görevinde olan astronot Jakub’un bu yalnızlığında geride bıraktığı hayatı, özellikle de karısı Lenka (Carey Mulligan) ile olan ilişkisini düşünecek bolca vakti vardır. Düşündükçe geri döndüğünde kadının onu beklemeyebileceğinin farkına varır.
Ancak gemide aradığı cevaplara sahip olabilecek Hanuš (Paul Dano tarafından seslendiriliyor) adında bir kaçak yolcunun bulunduğunu keşfettiğinde hala umut olduğunu fark eder.
Filmin senaryosunu Colby Day, Jaroslav Kalfar’ın 2017 tarihli “Spaceman of Bohemia” romanından uyarladı. Yönetmen koltuğunda ise Emmy ödüllü Johan Renck (Chernobyl) oturuyor.
Renck daha önce filmdeki asıl amacının Sandler’dan sık sık görmediğimiz türden bir performans elde etmek olduğunu belirtmiş ve Netflix Tudum’a şunları söylemişti: “Komik ve tatlı görünebilir, o çok zekidir, gerçekten çok akıllı ve derin.”
